Day 105/365
I thought it was a shame it’s always girls draw in ridiculous fruit and vegetable themed clothes. So this happened.
I love dressing Davey in dumb clothes, almost all of my sketches and pin ups are weird themed clothes. The animal ones are cannon, the rest not so much. The crossdressing sometimes, he doesn’t like it.  This one feels more like he’s modeling the watermelon clothes and less like he’s actually wearing them. I couldn’t think of a better expression for him, but I still think it works. I decided to skip having the seeds dot the shirt but he’s wearing a black belt and that’s a seed necklace. The rind-shirt would be a thin thing, like a Hawaiian shirt, but less of a horrible pattern. The red shirt’s a man-tank top.
His skin was difficult as ever to color, I think he’s swarthier than usual here. I might change what his father is. Originally both his parents are Italian descendants, but I think I might make the father more of an Eastern European (less west Asian?). Hmm…..
I used Posetool as a reference for his pose. check out my ref :D I wish there was a grounding plane in the app. I had to flip and rotate the figure a bunch of times to make sure the legs were level with the ‘ground’. If I’d drawn the ground line it’d be below his knees. That aside. I do like the posetool app but I think having a ground would also help for orienting a model sometimes.
Here: a shitty sketch of Davey’s outfit if he were standing. I kinda wanted to show how the clothes hang and how long they are on him. Funny, I’m thinking now and I have no idea how much he would actually like watermelon. I don’t think it’s his favorite fruit, but it’s so easy to get a good set of colors from watermelon. I’m also thinking, there are a lot of pink and green fruits….
Keep your drawing hand strong, I’ll be back tomorrow with another Cinema boy cutie in something ridiculous and fruit themed.

Day 104/365
The All New Spirit of Vengeance!
So, people I follow had been posting panels and designs from the first issue so of course I didn’t buy this until last week. Robbie and Gabe Reyes from the new Ghost Rider, to break up my incidental girl week, and gave me a pretty challenging sketch. They were easy enough but that titanfucker of a Ghost Rider helmet was a bitch. After I inked it I thought it looked like the Colossal Titan, so I kinda failed a little. The proportions are all over the place. It’s written by felipesmithart with art by traddmoore
But Robbie and Gabe are adorable as fuck. Robbie’s such a good brother and he tries so damn hard. He can’t help but want to do the best for his cherry, paraplegic younger brother. Characters have insulted him by calling him a “‘tard”, his mental age so far seems younger than what I guess he is, but as of issue 2 we’ve just seen Gabe’s love of comics and mac and cheese, so he’s okay in my book.
Seriously, I think they’re killing it on the art and I’m interested in seeing this new interpretation of him. I’ve only seen the first movie so I have no attachment to the character, but I’m all about different races being depicted as heroes. So far I like how it isn’t like Robbie was bestowed or took the mantel from someone else. I’m guessing by issue 6 we’ll learn if he also has a pact with Satan for his abilities or what happened to turn him into the Ghost Rider. I also wonder if we’ll see him lighting up roads on a bike in addition the car, but the car is sick so I don’t need a bike.
I’m honestly excited for the next issue. I mostly buy non-supes comics, just slice of life types of things or other types of action and adventure comics. But Ms Marvel and Ghost Rider are solid trade purchases for me. I’m also looking forward to the third Young Avengers trade, also Pretty Deadly and Sex Criminals. So many good comics, and I have a million comics in my room to read. If comics are some how not a cause of my death I’m doing it wrong.
You guys like music right? Totes right. Well, last week adamwarrock put out some Marvel Now themed tracks, Marvelous (Ms. Marvel) and Spirit of Vengeance (Ghost Rider) are pretty amazing. You should check ‘em out, they’re free to download. The others are good too, I just illustrations for these two comics, so you know… ah, before I forget, I did a seekrit Instabutts Exclusive post of some of the pencils. Technically, the sketches go up here finalized for public viewing first, but I was so damn proud of the sketch that I took a little preview to post before I inked it. You can seen how I sketched the full skull before I sketched in the figures.
I think this sketch would look pretty good colored, at least to separate the background head from Robbie and Gabe a bit. I have a lot of these I want to do some digital colors on and practice digital coloring, one of these days I’ll get around to doing that. Until then, keep your drawing hand strong and I’ll be back tomorrow.

Day 100/365

Holy hell I made it to three digit numbers. Have a lady knight and the prince she saved from his tower.Have a special post where I colored the sketch too

He was there long enough to have started teaching himself magic but can’t do much, maybe just moves things around, can conjour and manipulate fire and water. He’s been there a while, whenever the male knights realized it was a prince and not a princess they were like shitty 80s movie jocks and declared their not gay-ness and left him without fighting the dragon. When the price got good at magic he started casting rash and hive hexes on the ‘heroes’ who left. He’s nice like that.

The lady knight is from a poorish family. They sold her when she was young, to a squire and she killed him, his knight liked her moxie and started training her. She has fought valiantly, wooed and wowed men and women. She has also forgiven her parents and sends them a little bit of money every month, I mean, they had 8 kids, she was the 7th, the 8th “died in infancy.” They weren’t bad people, just too many mouths. Her older siblings are farmers or married to farmers. I dunno, maybe one’s an artisan.

I want to write her story, or maybe their combined story would be fun. It’d be a 3 part book, part one her life, part 2 his until he was locked in the tower then part 3 their combined story of her going to rescue him and going back to his king-father. If this happens she’ll totally get better armor.

Fun fact: in the pencils her helmet looked just like Magneto’s.

Fun fact 2: they’re both brown :D Some type of medieval South America. If I do that I will modify their clothes to be more culturally appropriate and less that one Romeo and Juliet movie I watched 80 times in middle and high school.

Fun fact 3: My drawing hand was strong.

Fun fact 4: look at their rose colored life. I could have made it darker.

Keep your drawing hand strong, I’ll be back tomorrow with something new.

Day 92/365
Spring Formal! I went from not knowing what to sketch to inking and coloring (I think this is the first inked and colored. The dragons were just colored)
It’s a Cinema moment featuring Sephy and her boyfriend, Richard. I wanted to draw one of them puffy skirted cocktail dresses that has petticoats and I branched out from there.
I almost made the dress blue, but yesterday’s sketch was blue and there was already enough blue in this sketch. Sephy’s personality wouldn’t do a red dress and I don’t have enough purple variants to make a purple/lavender dress. I kind of wish I had gotten the waves of her hair better, like smooth big waves, but I guess this is all right too.
Their skin was difficult, like skin always is. She’s pale and he’s half Asian (I think I made it him half chinese have euro). I do like how I got their blushes to look with her’s taking over her face. I also blended some pink into her chest but it doesn’t show as well. I really tried more on Sephy than I did on Richard, but I’m still pretty happy with this. His hair is pushed back to look more formal, but he wasn’t about to dye his bangs back to black, but I like how they blend into his duck-butt hair in the back.
I haven’t spent this much time on a daily sketch in a while (this took about an hour) I’m pretty happy with it. I wish I had put more thought into the background, I didn’t even scribble in implied bricks.
Okay, until tomorrow, keep your drawing hand strong and I’ll be back with something else.

"Come on, Mio, you look good in everything" a little costume swap that is hella stiff. Mio looks like a brawler in Zen’s clothes and Zen looks like a punk rocker with her Mohawk like that. This was done in green then black ballpoint, which is why the speech bubble looks so muddy. I like having Mio not talk. Maybe I’ll redraw that ice cream comic from a few weeks ago and give her more physical action in place of dialogue.

This happened instead of today’s daily sketch. I was thinking about it, then I was like “character heights” and considered Zen and Mio because I almost never draw them on the same plane, Zen’s usually flying…

I really like Mio’s outfit here.I think I should have put Zen in her usual shorts instead of pedal pushers. Also Zen’s feet are awful.

Man, I keep drawing stuff, maybe one day I’ll color something again. I haven’t touched my colored pencils in weeks. Que sera sera. Time to figure out the daily sketch, or something
